Grounded: How to Get an Axe (Tier 1 & 2)

Grounded: How to Get an Axe (Tier 1 & 2)

The axe is one of the first things you'll want to craft in Grounded so we've got all of the info you'll need on doing so. After that we'll explain how to get a tier 2 axe.

The tiny world of Grounded is a seriously hostile place to be, and you'll need to use everything at your disposal to survive. One of the first things you'll want to craft is an axe, as it will allow you to chop down grass and can even function as a weapon in a pinch. In this guide we'll walk you through the steps involved in crafting an axe and then take a look at upgrading it to a level 2 axe.

How to Get an Axe in Grounded

To get an axe in Grounded you will first need to collect the following resources:

  • Pebblet (x2)
  • Sprigs (x3)
  • Plant Fibre (x3)

Pebblets are the small rocks that can be found scattered all over the ground in most areas of the game. There are plenty in the starting area. Sprigs are small pieces of grass, around the same height as your character, these can also be found pretty much everywhere. Plant Fibre is harvested by picking at the small green plants on the ground, these come in two varieties: a three-leafed plant barely an inch tall, and a more twisted, taller plant.

Once you've picked up these three resources, continue down the starting path to the first lab module. Your scanner will lead you there. Once at the lab station use the machine nearby to analyse the three resources listed above. Analyzing the Pebblet will unlock the Pebblet Axe recipe, Analyzing the Plant Fibres will unlock the Woven Fibre Recipe. Now follow these steps to craft the Pebblet Axe:

  1. Head into the crafting menu and select the Woven Fibre option under the 'Resources' tab
  2. Craft Woven Fibre and then switch to the 'Tools' tab
  3. You will now be able to craft a Pebblet Axe.

How to Upgrade Your Axe to Get a Tier 2 Insect Axe

Grounded doesn't feature an upgrade system per se, instead there are different versions of each tool to craft. Because of this you cannot upgrade your Pebblet Axe to tier 2, and if you want to cut down materials like weeds you will need an Insect Axe. An Insect Axe is unlocked by analyzing a Ladybug Head. We've detailed how to find and kill one in this guide. Once you have the head and unlocked the Insect Axe Crafting recipe you will need the following resources:

  1. Ladybug Head x 1
  2. Bombardier Part x 3 (info on finding and killing Bombardier Beetles in this guide)
  3. Spider Silk x 4 (more on finding this here)
