Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost On Bringing Multiplayer Action, Extremely Long Title to the U.S.

An import favorite is once again making its way to the U.S.

Following the release of Gundam Versus on PlayStation 4 back in 2017, it looks like Bandai Namco Entertainment is turning back the clock a bit. The publisher announced today that Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost On would be coming to PlayStation 4 in North America.

If you're not familiar with the series, Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost On is a 2v2 multiplayer action series featuring 183 playable mobile suits from 36 iterations of the Gundam franchise. It's been an arcade mainstay in Japan for a very long time now, though it remains largely unknown in the west.

Going with Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost On is a bit odd, as it's not even the final iteration of its line of Gundam games. The original Maxi Boost On released in Japanese arcades back in March 2014. It was followed by Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. 2, another arcade release in 2018, and the version that Bandai Namco is currently updating.

Regardless, the avid Gundam Vs. community is pretty happy to see a proper Gundam Vs. title get a US console release. They've had to subsist with imports for a long time now.

America did get the afotrementioned Gundam Versus title in 2017, but it was a brand new title aimed at a worldwide audience. This is a proper arcade port. It will be released later this year.

M.H. Williams is new to the journalism game, but he's been a gamer since the NES first graced American shores. Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
