H1Z1 Battle Royale is out today on PlayStation 4 as a free-to-play Open Beta. The game will first release in a Beta state, and will come out as a full release later in the year. Daybreak also put out a new launch trailer to celebrate.

During our preview of H1Z1 Battle Royale on PS4, we noted that Daybreak recognized the core problem of battle royale games on consoles. Namely, that they're all overly complicated in terms of controls. It's a problem that affects both PUBG and Fortnite Battle Royale. To fix this, Daybreak completely removed complicated mechanics like item management from H1Z1 on PS4.

That's just one of the changes H1Z1 has made in its specific redesign for the PS4. Daybreak also added six new weapons, and made changes to the game's toxic gas ring (which serves as the game's red circle) so that it will move faster and make games more hectic.

"We redisgned H1Z1 on the PlayStation 4 to cater to the action shooter fan," says H1Z1 producer Terrence Yee. "We received fantastic feedback during Closed Beta and we are excited for all PlayStation 4 players to finally be able to experience the intense action of H1Z1: Battle Royale."

As part of the launch, Daybreak is releasing three tiers of bundles at different price points. The Starter Bundle will be priced at $4.99, the Standard Bundle goes for $19.99, and the Deluxe Bundle will be $49.99. PS Plus members get one free bundle with two exclusive Nemesis Crate items, the tactical body armor and backpack.

It's unknown how H1Z1's console debut will shake-up the battle royale landscape. Fortnite Battle Royale is arguably the most popular battle royale game in the mainstream right now, with Epic recently announcing a $100 million prize pool for Fortnite esports tournaments.

PUBG is still holding strong as the game that popularized the battle royale trend, but there are upcoming contenders like Call of Duty Black Ops 4, which will also be getting a battle royale mode. Will H1Z1 be able to make a splash in a quickly expanding field of battle royale games?
