Half-Life: Alyx Won't Be at The Game Awards 2019 After All
The VR-exclusive Half-Life won't share more info as part of tonight's festivities after all.
The next Half-Life may be on the way, but we won't be seeing any more of it tonight. Valve announced today that Half-Life: Alyx would be skipping The Game Awards 2019, as the team takes more time to polish next year's VR-exclusive entry in the Half-Life series.
Though Game Awards host Geoff Keighley tweeted that more Half-Life: Alyx info would be coming during the annual gaming awards show, it's looking like plans have changed. A post on Valve's Twitter says the team is "hard at work" and will show more of the VR title in the new year, closer to its release in March 2020.
We're sorry to say Half-Life: Alyx won’t be shown at The Game Awards tonight. The team is hard at work on the game, and we’re excited to show you more in the new year as we approach the March release!

Half-Life: Alyx was confirmed a few weeks ago as the next entry in the Half-Life series, taking place between the first and second games through the eyes of Alyx Vance. Though it will require a virtual reality headset of some kind to play, you won't need Valve's Vive Index to challenge the Combine. Valve has confirmed that several VR headsets will work, including the Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest via Link connection.
While it might be jarring to see Half-Life go full-on VR, the trailer alone looks fairly impressive. It would've been nice to get more info on what kind of virtual reality techniques Valve is employing for Alyx tonight, but we'll have to wait until the new year to see. In the meantime, read up on our feature about why it's it's much easier to show just Alyx's hands in VR, with insight from various VR developers.
