Valve announced today that Half-Life: Alyx is coming to SteamVR. It will be the first true Half-Life story since the release of Half-Life 2: Episode Two in 2007.
We’re excited to unveil Half-Life: Alyx, our flagship VR game, this Thursday at 10am Pacific Time. Can’t wait to share it with all of you! pic.twitter.com/BupFCxSrTw— Valve (@valvesoftware) November 18, 2019
Right now we only have confirmation that Half-Life: Alyx exists and a basic logo. Valve says that it will share more information on Thursday at 10am PT. The news follows rumors of the announcement from earlier today, which appeared in a leaked script from The Game Awards.
Half-Life fans have been waiting for more than a decade for the continuation of the story of Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance. Half-Life 2: Episode Two famously ended in a cliffhanger, but Half-Life 3 never materialized. It wasn't until Marc Laidlaw posted a short story interpreted to be the concept for Half-Life 2: Episode Three that fans were able to gain some closure.
A VR game may not be what Half-Life fans wanted, but it'll be nice at least to head back into the universe that gave us Black Mesa, headcrabs, crowbars, and other elements that have become video game icons. Look for more info on Thursday, with a fuller reveal at The Game Awards; and check out our look back on Half-Life 2 for its 15th anniversary.
