Halo Infinite's New Art Hides Some Major Details on Master Chief's Armor

Who're you looking at, Chief?

With the first public showing of Halo Infinite's campaign just over a day away, 343 Industries has dropped one of its last major teases before tomorrow's Xbox event in the form of a slick new picture of the Master Chief. At first glance it's a pretty classic Halo composition, but there are two interesting details hiding in plain sight.

First, take a close look at the Chief's helmet. This is easier to do with the large, vertical version of the art 343 released, which gives a much better look at what's being reflected in the Mjolnir armor's shiny visor. The Master Chief is clearly staring down a beefy foe.

You can make out the silhouette of a Brute wielding a Gravity Hammer, which is further evidence pointing toward the notion that Infinite will borrow its main baddies from Halo Wars 2. A teaser released last month made mention of The Banished, the Brute-led Covenant splinter faction that served as the main antagonists in the second Halo Wars campaign. It looks like The Banished want a piece of whichever broken-up Halo ring the Master Chief finds himself on this time around.

Also, if you take a look at the Chief's left forearm you'll see a bit of equipment that wasn't there in last E3's "Discover Hope" teaser or any of the other pictures we've seen of the new armor to-date. It appears to be some kind of gadget with a pointy end facing in the direction of the Chief's hand. With rumors about the inclusion of a grappling hook still kicking around, maybe we'll see everyone's favorite Spartan doing his best Pathfinder impression in tomorrow's presentation.

Halo Infinite's campaign reveal is the marquee attraction at tomorrow's July Xbox Games Showcase, which will start at 12 p.m. ET / 9 a.m. PT following a pre-show with Geoff Keighley. Chances are good that in just over 24 hours, we'll know a lot more about the Chief's new toy, and we'll probably get to see whatever it is put to use against some Banished Brutes.
