New Resident Evil 3 Remake Timeline Shows Carlos' Story Starts Before Jill's

Pinpointing the date the nightmare begins for both characters.

For those that aren't too familiar with the earlier entries of Capcom's horror franchise, Resident Evil 2 and 3 take place in very close proximity, in the same city. Now, Capcom has put together a handy timeline to show newcomers exactly when the two games take place.

Over on the official Resident Evil website, there's a timeline that pinpoints the location of four key characters in Raccoon City. These are Resident Evil 2's Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy, and Resident Evil 3's Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira, all of which are playable in their respective games. (Carlos wasn't playable in the original Resident Evil 3, but he will be playable to some degree in the remake.)

What's eye-catching is that Carlos' story actually begins a few days prior to Jill's in Resident Evil 3. Carlos shows up to Raccoon City on September 26, 1998, and Jill's story kicks off two days later on September 28. Does this mean we could begin the remake of Resident Evil 3 by playing as Carlos instead of Jill? The dates on the timeline would seem to point to that being a possibility.

The timeline is also helpful in establishing where Resident Evil 2's Leon and Claire are in relation to Jill and Carlos. The duo begins their respective nightmare venture into the city just one day after Jill's story, on September 29. The map just next to the timeline breaks down where all four characters begin their respective games.

The remake of Resident Evil 3 releases in just a few weeks time on April 3, 2020, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A demo for the remake is set to launch on all platforms tomorrow, on March 19.
