Both in The Witcher games by CD Projekt Red and in the novels by Andrjez Sapkowski, poet Dandelion wears a pretty flamboyant hat. In the Netflix version of The Witcher, Dandelion (renamed Jaskier) sports no such fancy attire. What gives?
Turns out the producers behind The Witcher on Netflix actually tried a version of Joey Batey's Jaskier sporting a stylish hat. "Ah yes, the hat! It was made, we tried it on Joey, and we couldn't stop laughing," Witcher writer and showrunner Lauren Hissrich said on Reddit. "Will we try again? Sure. Nothing is impossible."
If you look at the replies underneath the post on the Witcher subreddit just above, it turns out people actually want to see Jaskier sporting the hat. "Bring back the hat in s2," one user wrote. "I hope Geralt makes fun of it," someone else replied.
Geralt would definitely be making fun of the hat, should Jaskier sport it in season two of The Witcher. For the sake of comparison, the image below is of Dandelion in The Witcher 3, where the bard accompanies Geralt and co. on the latter's journey of reuniting with Ciri after decades apart, and saving her from the Wild Hunt.
All eight episodes of The Witcher are available to be streamed now on Netflix. Before the debut season even launched in December, Netflix had already commissioned a second season from Hissrich and co. which will be arriving on Netflix in 2021.
