Highly Anticipated Fallout: New California Mod Out Now for Players Who Want More Single-Player Story

Heading west again.

There's a big Fallout release today and it isn't the Fallout 76 beta. The mod team of Radian-Helix Media have released its ambitious mod Fallout: New California that serves as a full prequel to Fallout: New Vegas and adds up to an estimated 30 hours of single-player story to New Vegas.

New California is a prequel set 20 years before the events of New Vegas. The mod adds a new map two-thirds the size of the one in New Vegas as well as a branching storyline with voiced NPCs. The new protagonist is the Star Player, a Vault-Ball player who can specialize in combat or science story routes and join one of the many factions in the wasteland: NCR, raiders, New Reno mob, Enclave, Shi, and Super Mutants.

While Obsidian says it's doubtful they'll develop more Fallout: New Vegas games, these modders have taken it into their own hands it seems. Not only is New California compatible with existing mods, indeed the devs have a recommended list of mods to add-on with New California, but it could tie-in with other mod projects like Fallout: The Frontier. There's even a chance to tie in your story with the Courier's.

While New California is currently in beta, where testers will no doubt uncover bugs and the like, you can download the mod yourself over at ModDB and Nexus Mods where it comes in a nice 6.6 GB file. All you'll need is the base version of Fallout: New Vegas which you should already own since New Vegas is one of the best RPGs of all time.

If you're looking forward to more Fallout remember that the Fallout 76 beta starts today and we have the Fallout 76 guides to help you get started.
