The bonus for pre-ordering Hitman 2 is access to Hitman: Sniper Assassin, a cooperative multiplayer mode. Sniper Assassin has you sniping targets from very far away by yourself or with up to two friends. It's a blast, even if it's not the full Hitman experience.
It makes you think about how great it would be for a more traditional cooperative Hitman. Imagine a mode with two different hitmen sneaking through locations together to take out targets. Passing off items and disguises, working together to distract targets; Hitman feels like it'd be a great co-op game.
When I asked about the possibility of co-op play for normal Hitman 2, Executive Producer Markus Friedl said it's something IO Interactive has thought about, but the studio isn't committing to anything yet.
"It's something we are exploring. But this is not to confirm it or to deny it. It's something we're looking into," said Friedl.
So I guess there's some hope that Hitman 2 could see co-op in the distant future. For now and at launch, players will have to be fine with Hitman: Sniper Assassin, which will be getting more maps in the future.
Hitman 2 is coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on November 13, 2018.
