Hitman 3 Sets Release Date and Guarantees Free Next-Gen Upgrades

Agent 47's coming to all platforms just a few weeks into the new year.

Since it was revealed at June's big PlayStation 5 event, IO Interactive's said that Hitman 3—the third and final installment in the World of Assassination trilogy, and the first it's self-publishing—would come out in January. The company's sticking to that promise, and it also has good news for folks who aren't quite sure they'll have a shiny new console by then.

Today, IO has announced that Hitman 3 will launch on January 20, 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, Google Stadia, and PC (via the Epic Games Store). If you're a console player who goes for a digital copy, you also won't need to worry about double dipping for next-gen: for both PlayStation and Xbox (via Smart Delivery), IO's providing free upgrades.

There will only be two different editions of Hitman 3, a standard version and a Deluxe Edition that includes digital soundtracks for the trilogy, director's commentary, a digital art book, a few exclusive suits and items, and some Deluxe-exclusive Escalation missions. Pre-orders of either version will be granted a collection of monochromatic suits, pistols, and briefcases that represent the three entries in the trilogy.

For those hoping to complete the World of Assassination trilogy on Steam, they'll be in for a wait, as IO confirms that Hitman 3 will be an Epic PC exclusive for 12 months from its launch date. It remains to be seen how PC storefront exclusivity and next-gen upgrades will impact the process of importing progress and locations from the past two Hitman titles. It'd also be nice to get more details on Hitman 3's VR mode, which has so far only been confirmed for PlayStation VR.
