The final entry in IO Interactive's Hitman trilogy is headed to current and next-gen consoles, and it's arriving with a new twist. Not only will Hitman 3 have VR, but it will allow for VR play throughout the entirety of the trilogy.
VR Hitman seems like exactly what you would expect: using PlayStation VR, it will put you directly in the shoes of Agent 47, garrote and all. That means seeing up close and personal what it's like to blend in a crowd and tail a target, and also getting uncomfortably close for some situations.
While zooming into the violence might dampen some of the campy physical humor aspects of Hitman—much like going first-person put a weird spin on Grand Theft Auto 5—I'm still pretty excited to try this out for myself. Beyond the assassinations, the Hitman trilogy has gone to some pretty spectacular vistas over the years. I absolutely want to visit Sapienza and Paris in VR.
In a PlayStation blog entry, IO Interactive elaborates on ways that VR can be utilized in these levels, like deflecting bullets with a frying pan. Sounds like the Hitman charm can still be retained, even in VR.
This new trailer aired during today's PlayStation State of Play, and explicitly detailed PlayStation VR. Today's blog entry says there will be more details in the months ahead on how PS VR owners will be able to play. Hitman 3 is set to launch on both current-gen and next-gen consoles, as well as PC, when it arrives in January 2021.
