Horizon Zero Dawn Uncovers 2.6 Million in Sales Worldwide

Guerilla's action RPG is Sony's best-selling new IP launch on the PS4.

News by Mike Williams, .

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that worldwide sales of Horizon Zero Dawn have crossed 2.6 million copies sold. The title went on sale on February 28, with these numbers marking two weeks of availability.

"We knew Horizon Zero Dawn was going to be something special, so to see the incredible critical reaction to a brand new game world translate into this level of sales is really gratifying," said SIE Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden. "Guerrilla has created a game that is nothing short of exceptional, and the reaction we have seen from fans – from hours and hours of gameplay streaming to endless photo sharing – shows just how impactful it has been."

"We're thrilled that Horizon Zero Dawn has been embraced by critics and players alike. Developing the game was a labor of love, so it's extremely satisfying to see that it elicits the same passion and enthusiasm from the gaming public that we felt during its development," said Guerrilla Managing Director Hermen Hulst. "This is only the beginning of Aloy's story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the team already hard at work on an expansion to the story."

Hulst also noted on Twitter that this was Guerilla's best debut ever.

Such a great game! I'm still going through it because I've been living that Zelda life for the past 2 weeks but getting back to it again probably this weekend!

It's well deserved. Horizon has room for improvement, but it's Guerilla's best game yet and is a much more interesting world than Killzone. It's nice to see a new IP with a female protagonist sell well.

Just finished it yesterday. It was great, only a few nitpicky gripes but man overall the game was a blast, glad to see it did well.

I always felt with caveats here and there that Guerrilla's Killzone series was largely meh, but always technically impressive. Horizon is them finally merging great game design, gameplay, and good narrative/characters with their technical expertise to create their best game to date. Also, I just achieved the platinum trophy for it, only my 6th in nearly 10 years earning PS trophies, so I think that says it all.

Its amazing that its done so well despite the conspiracy by US and Eurogamer to try to turn the public against it (joking!!!)

@NiceGuyNeon Not a bad rate of return eh :) Not played it myself, might wait for the now-inevitable sequel to hopefully clean up a few of the bits that weren't as good.

This is great to hear and I mirror Compeau's comment about a new IP with a female protagonist selling well being a good thing. I am going to skip this one for a bit because of the fact it's doing so well and will probably pick it some time later this year. There are plenty of games right now like Nier Automata and Persona 5 that I want to support from the start because they are a bit more under the radar than this. Good news for sure.
