This guide will teach you how to earn as many Crowns as you could possibly want while riding about the Northern Realms. We'll focus on doing things the right way, through the main quests and secondary quests, as well as a few sneaky tricks that you may not have known about. We don't want to give it away just yet, but it might involve some cows, as well as a few sea shells.
Explore the Northern Realms
There are times when we're so focused on the end result that we forget to enjoy the journey, and that was beginning to be the case in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We started grinding away at main quests and side quests, forgetting to spend some time roaming and exploring the land in between our objectives.
We corrected this last night, going around and visiting all of the question marks that we found around Velen and White Orchard. We found treasures, monster nests, bandit camps and everything in between, and by the time we had finished wandering around for about two hours, we were 2,000 Crowns richer.
If you want to mimic our success, head out and fill your pockets with everything you can carry, being sure to grab up all the dropped weapons and armor of your foes. Then, head to a merchant in a nearby town and sell it all (unless it's better than what you have). Combine this with the loose Crowns that you find laying around, and you'll be laughing all the way to the bank. Not to mention, you'll also find loads of alchemy, weapon and armor diagrams, which are going to help you craft better gear going forward.
We started to get a little worried about whether contracts were worth our time in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as a couple of our clients were rather short on change. As you get into Velen, however, there are several that will pay Geralt a solid 250 Crowns. Considering that each one of these can be banged out in about 10 minutes, you could easily earn over 1,000 Crowns for an hour of work. You might even get it done faster by reading a walkthrough for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Contracts.
We'd suggest doing contracts that are about level 10, making sure that you are also in that range when you attempt them. There are some that will be in the 20's and 30's, but these aren't really realistic for your average player to complete until they rank up a bit. Still, if you can pocket 1,000 Crowns before you head off to Novigrad, that's a pretty good deal.
How to Earn Infinite Crowns
So far we have found two ways that you can earn infinite Crowns in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. One of them is fairly simple and can be done in under an hour, while the other is going to get very tedious very quickly. Both of them, however, stand a chance to be patched out by CD Projekt Red, with the latter being a much better candidate to continue working for months to come.
The first method can score you more than 100,000 Crowns in less than an hour. To get started, head to Novigrad and speak with a merchant who stands in a square that has some people burnt at the stake. He has some sausages hanging behind him, so he shouldn't be hard to spot. Talk to him and buy up all of the sea shells that you can afford. If you can afford more than he has, back out and speak to him again, and his supply should be re-stocked.
When that is done, head past the people burnt at the stake and speak to the armorer. Navigate to the option where you can dismantle items, choosing this for all your sea shells. This will turn them into pearls, then it's on to the next portion of the process.
A few streets to the east you will see two more merchants, and you want the one that is further to the east. Head inside his shop and buy up all the Florens that he has, then sell all of the pearls he can afford. When he's out of Crowns, back out and ask to see his stock once again, repeating the process until you are completely out of pearls to sell.
You're now out of pearls and full of Florens, so head back to the square where you originally started to find the bank. Choose the option to convert your currency, which will transform your Florens into Crowns. It won't get you 100,000 Crowns on the first run, but repeating this over the course of an hour is sure to make you the richest man in the Northern Realms. It's also likely to get patched out at some point, which is a good reason that you'll want to jump on this one quickly.
The second method we have (thanks again to WhatsMyGame) can be done the moment you reach White Orchard, just over the bridge of the small town you wander into. It's there that you'll find two cows, each of which you can slaughter with your sword and loot. When you loot them you're likely to get a variety of goods, but every now and then you'll find cow hide. In fact, each time you find cow hide you'll find two pieces of it. Grab it, then head to the vender across the street and sell it to him for 27 Crowns each. It may not sound like much, but you can earn a decent amount for your early game needs.
The key is meditating. There are only two cows, so after you kill them you'll want to meditate for a few hours, which causes them to respawn. Kill them again, loot them again, and if you get more cow hide, sell it to the merchant across the street. It's a tedious method, but it's one that can help you out if you're in a pinch. Not to mention, you'll also end up with loads of raw meat and cow milk, both of which will come in handy when you want to regenerate your health.
