Hungering Deep Update Out Now for Sea of Thieves

Listen. Can you hear the "Jaws" theme getting louder?

There's something seething in the blackest depths of the ocean, an its appetite is terrifying. Now you can go for a swim and find out what it is for your self with Sea of Thieves' first major content update, "The Hungering Deep." It's available now, and it's free.

The events of The Hungering Deep center around solving riddles and piecing together rumors related to the fate of "Merry" Merrick, a pirate who owned a pair of peg-legs and seems to have been swallowed by some enormous monster, legs and all. You can pick up quest-exclusive items like the drum (for drumming), signalling flags (for signalling), speaking trumpet (for yelling at other Pirates), and selectable tattoos (for looking cool). These items are only available for a limited time, so put your sails to the wind if you want them.

What is the titular "hungering deep," though? It appears to be a shark. A shark big enough to make a Great White look like a minnow. Rare teased the arrival of this king of the deep last week in a trailer, and a new piece of art shows a mammoth shark marauding a ship and an unfortunate pirate washed overboard.

Ready to strike out on the high seas in search of whatever terrors may come? Take plenty of citrus fruit, fresh water, rum, and our guide to Sea of Thieves: The Hungering Deep.
