Words are powerful things. They can be used to communicate, to convey information, to identify. They can also be used to obfuscate, to confuse, and to mislead. The games industry often employs all of those functions for its greater purpose: to sell you stuff.
So in honor of the sheer flexibility of language and the endlessly inventive twists and contortions we hear from the linguistic gymnasts who make and sell games, the theme of this week's This Week column is wordplay. We've got rebrandings, euphemisms, mistranslations, implications, disingenuous spin, and so much more.
