Into the Spider-Verse Trailer Features a Neat Surprise for Spider-Man PS4 Fans

There's a new trailer today for Sony's upcoming animated Marvel film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which stars Miles Morales as he encounters various different Spider-Men (and women) from alternate dimensions. Including maybe, the Spider-Man from Insomniac's recent Spider-Man PS4 game.

Into the Spider-Verse doesn't come out until Christmas but based on the trailers we get a pretty good idea of the story. Miles Morales, who appears to be just starting out as his universe's Spider-Man, encounters Peter Parker who is already an experienced, kind of old Spider-Man from a different universe.

Along the way he'll also meet Gwen Stacy who is Spider-Woman of her universe, Peni Parker who pilots a Spider-Mech, Noir Spider-Man (voiced by Nicholas 'freakin' Cage!), and Spider-Ham a pig who is also Spider-Man. If you look closely in the background of the new trailer at around the 1:39 mark, you can even see the Insomniac PS4 Spider-Suit thanks to its distinctive white spider logo.

Now, here's where we get into some theory territory because the PS4 Spider-Suit isn't discussed or even mentioned in the new trailer. Based on the location, which has a bunch of different Spider-people, and some weird webbing in the background, this room could be some cross-dimensional hub of Spider-Things which is a real place in the comics, and the basis for the whole Spider-Verse crossover thing.

However, there's also someone who looks like Aunt May in this room, and the only one she's related to in the movie so far is Peter Parker (each of the other Spider-People have their own family and friends). So, this could actually be the kinda old Peter's home base, in which case he could even be an older version of the Peter Parker we played in Insomniac's recent Spider-Man PS4 game. Think about it.

That's all just theorizing now, and we'll need to watch the film to see if that suit is anything more than just an Easter Egg. But perhaps Sony is looking to create an inter-connected Spider-Man universe that bridges across both films and video games. They are also making a Venom film coming out this week and are co-producing the Marvel Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland.
