IO Interactive Teases the Next Hitman Game

IO Interactive's CEO uses Hitman GOTY Edition's launch to tease a sequel.

Hitman: Game of the Year Edition is out today and the CEO of IO Interactive, Hakan Abrak, released a public letter thanking fans for their support. Abrak also used the opportunity to announce that development of a new Hitman game is well underway.

"Today feels like a good opportunity to update you on how and what we're doing as we have passed 7 million players in the game and we are releasing the first new content since the conclusion of Season One, in the form of our Game of the Year Edition of HITMAN."

Earlier this year, IO Interactive and Square Enix parted ways after working with each other for eight years. IO Interactive and Square Enix agreed to a management buyout and IO Interactive became an independent studio, while keeping the rights to the Hitman IP.

The Game of the Year Edition shows that IO Interactive has been spending its time since the buyout working on more Hitman content. And based on Abrak's letter, we should expect more in 2018.

"One last thing about our next Hitman game; I want to let you know that we're making great progress and we have exciting new features and some franchise firsts, which we can't wait to tell you about. You'll have to wait a little longer as we don't plan to start talking about that until some point in 2018."

Luckily 2018 is just a few months away so hopefully we'll hear about Hitman Season 2—or whichever new direction IO Interactive decides to take the Hitman franchise next—fairly soon.
