Jade Returns in New Beyond Good and Evil 2 E3 2018 Trailer

Jade is that you?

News by Matt Kim, .

Ubisoft showed off a new cinematic trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 today and finally revealed the fate of Jade, the protagonist from the first Beyond Good and Evil.

When Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced last year, Jade's status or even existence was left unclear. Today's new cinematic trailer reveals Jade's presence but leaves more questions than answers for what Ubisoft says is a prequel to the first Beyond Good and Evil. Check out the trailer below.

Did Jade start out as a baddie? What happened to turn her into the intrepid journalist we know from the first Beyond Good and Evil? It seems that we will be taking control of a new crew who encounter an early Jade.

Ubisoft also showed off some new gameplay from Beyond Good and Evil 2 which Ubisoft confirms is an action-adventure RPG playable either solo or co-op. Ubisoft also announced a partnership with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Hit Record creative video community to get fan-submitted works of art into Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Mmmm… I finally played the first game recently and MASSIVE SPOILERS: There is the reveal at the end that Jade’s soul was the container of some sort of power related to the Domz (that is, the alien villains). The game doesn’t really clarify how she acquired that power or even what she actually is. I suppose this one will finally answer those questions.

Regardless of that, I’m glad that, despite them grafting all the trappings of a “game-as-service”, it will still have a focus on story. The first game was delightful if a bit too short.
