Sony may not have a branded equivalent to "Smart Delivery," but some of the PlayStation 5's cross-gen launch window titles will have free upgrades to the next-gen system. Joining that list is Kena: Bridge of Spirits, the third-person action adventure title that made its debut at the PS5 reveal event back in June.
Kena, which is planned to launch exclusively on Sony consoles and for PC via the Epic Games Store, is being developed by Ember Labs. On Twitter, Ember confirms that there will be a free upgrade path for Kena from PS4 to PS5, but there will be some kind of time limit in place that the team doesn't have details on yet.
Beyond its PS5 event unveiling, we've not seen much of Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which Ember is self-publishing. It's also Ember's debut title, as the studio has previously worked mainly on visual effects and advertising projects.
The game certainly has a striking look, with lush natural environments and little cartoony characters reminiscent of the Soot Sprites from My Neighbor Totoro. They're actually called "the Rot," and it looks like a major part of Kena's gameplay involves finding and collecting the little guys in order to get new abilities and alter the environment.
Ember still hasn't announced release timing for Kena beyond "Holiday 2020," but presumably we'll find out that information after Sony announces the launch date for the PS5. It's actually one of a few upcoming titles, including Oddworld: Soulstorm and Bugsnax, that are planning cross-gen Sony and PC launches.
