Kojima's Snatcher Headlines the TurboGrafx-16 Mini's 50-Strong Lineup, but There's a Kicker

Snatcher is here, but sadly not in English.

The throwback console trend carries on with Konami's TurboGrafx-16 Mini. The full lineup of classic TurboGrafx-16 games has been announced today, with 50 various English and Japanese-language games arriving in one compact box on March 19, 2020.

The TurboGrafx-16 Mini will go on sale on Amazon, with a pre-order period starting July 15, or Prime Day. The retro box will have 24 games in English and 26 PC Engine games which are in Japanese, though there will be some overlap in the games for regional variations.

Here's the full list, including some surprising games especially on the PC Engine side of things:

English-language TurboGrafx-16 games

  • Victory Run
  • Blazing Lazers

The most obvious standout, besides a few games we already knew about like R-Type, is the appearance of Hideo Kojima's early cyberpunk adventure Snatcher. While it hit the PC Engine in 1992, it wasn't brought to the US for the Sega CD until 1995 and remains rare to this day. It's nice to see it in the box, though a missed opportunity to localize it and make this throwback console truly stand out.

No price has been set yet for the TurboGrafx-16 Mini. It will have a quick save and some scanline options, much like other retro console boxes, as well as a separate multi-tap accessory which will let up to five controllers hook up and play. There isn't too much else to say, other than, please bring us a localized Snatcher.
