Podcast: Late But Still Lovely, It's From US To You! Episode 6

Amidst the winter release doldrums, the crew takes refuge in the warmth of some newly re-released classics.

Well, we broke our streak of weekly podcast postings with this one. We recorded it like the usual clockwork, but the editing process was disrupted by an incident involving lost luggage. Technology: So versatile, so fragile.

Thankfully, since basically nothing whatsoever is happening in the games industry at the moment, this episode's topics are somewhere between 15 and 17 years old... despite also being current. So we lucked into timelessness by sheer chance.

Specifically, this episode of From US To You! sees us chatting about the recent re-releases of Suikoden II and Grim Fandango, two very lovely games from the end of the last century (or millennium, if you prefer) that suddenly have resurfaced for modern audiences to appreciate... once they get past sneering about the dated graphics, of course. But don't think this is some Retronauts episode in disguise; our conversation centers much more on where these titles fit into gaming's current state of affairs.

And, of course, there's the usual Kat Bailey Sports Minute... which was slightly truncated to remove all the now-pointless Super Bowl predictions. (To Kat's credit, she wasn't far off!) And the question of the week: Should Kat be the only one to have all the fun? What other thematic minutes do you demand?

Mike and Bob return as Jaz bows out for a tragically belated episode. Thankfully, the topics at hand in this long-overdue recording are already pretty old — two classic game re-releases, Suikoden II and Grim Fandango. (MP3, 58:42, 40.5 MB)

Show breakdown:

0:00: Yes! We are bonkuras!
8:28: 108 seconds of Suikoden II
37:00: The Kat Bailey Sports Minute

The music this week comes from Grim Fandango, because who doesn't love smooth undead jazz? Honestly now.
