Yes, that Monster Hunter movie is still happening, and now we've got a trailer to prove it. Attendees of the Shanghai International Film Festival got a first glimpse of the movie, and a few people had their phones out to record and share with the world.
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who's already brought video games to life through Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil, this new MonHun movie seems par for the course. At least it has a Diablos in it, looking pretty awesome. This is our first look at any of the actual monsters of Monster Hunter, and it seems like Anderson didn't hold back on the CGI budget.
We can see the already known actors, including Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa. Ron Perlman and T.I. are also set to appear in Monster Hunter, which is currently set for a September 4, 2020 premiere date.
Some of the set photos we've already seen look weird as hell, including a few of a tank, apparently? At least now we know what the monsters look like, and with both a hunter and handler in the trailer, we can hope for some good ol' fashioned monster hunting rather than a Transformers-esque "military dudes fighting some weird alien thing" setup.
In the meantime, if you're looking for some information on the latest in the world of Monster Hunter games, you should check out our interview with the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne devs from E3. The expansion adds a lot of cold, a clutch claw, and some ferocious new monsters that seem like they'll really be trouble to take down.
