Spider-Man PS4 Gets a Couple of Deep Cut Fantastic Four Costumes

Maybe not so deep cut for you Marvel fans.

Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 just got two new free Spider-Man costumes as part of today's update. Both Spider-Man outfits are Fantastic Four-related following Marvel's "World's Greatest Week" celebration, which saw the First Family returning to several Marvel games.

As part of today's 1.14 update for Spider-Man PS4, Insomniac Games released two Fantastic Four Spider-Man outfits from the comics for free. One is just Spider-Man wearing standard Fantastic Four costume but with a paper bag over his head. This suit is a reference to Amazing Spider-Man #258, where Spider-Man went to the Fantastic Four to get his Symbiote suit removed. Once it was gone however, Spidey was left without a replacement so the Fantastic Four lent him one of their outfits and a paper bag as a mask (the Fantastic Four don't wear masks).

The second outfit is Spider-Man's Future Foundation suit, a costume he wore when he joined the rebranded Fantastic Four who all wore slick black and white outfits. The outfit was retired when the Fantastic Four recently returned, but it's immortalized in Spider-Man PS4.

The different Spider-Man outfits is one of the best things about Insomniac's Marvel game. Unfortunately, fan expectations for new Spider-Man outfits can turn overzealous as seen with the "Raimi-suit" controversy. Fans vehemently demanded the Spider-Man costume from Sam Raimi's live-action Spider-Man films starring Tobey Maguire, and while the suit was eventually released it wasn't before fans started harassing Insomniac over the lack of the Raimi-suit.

Spider-Man was one of the biggest PS4 games in 2018 and one of our top games for that year. Check out our Spider-Man PS4 review and Spider-Man guide for our full coverage of the web-slinger's latest video game outing.
