Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Adds More X-Men to its Roster

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Adds More X-Men to its Roster

It's not just Wolverine showing up for the fun.

We've known for a while that Wolverine made the cut for the next Ultimate Alliance, but with the X-Men's noticeable absence in the Marvel cinematic universe, it was uncertain how many mutants we'd end up playing as in Ultimate Alliance 3. A trailer released today confirms that the X-Men are here, and there are a lot of them.

Throughout the trailer, there several glimpses of different mutants from different parts of the X-Men continuity. Magneto, Mystique, Juggernaut, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Beast, and Storm are all among the heroes (and villains) shown allying against the Black Order.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, developed by Team Ninja, is the long-awaited follow-up to a beloved local co-op Marvel series. While a follow-up to the previous two games in terms of gameplay, the story is set to follow big bad Thanos' quest to assemble the Infinity Stones and the rest of the Marvel universe's attempts to stop him.

Since Ultimate Alliance captures a lot of the same energy as old superhero arcade games like the infamous six-player X-Men cabinet, it's nice to see them show up for the fun. With characters like Spider-Gwen and Carol Danvers showing up, alongside the timely tie-in to Avengers: Endgame, Ultimate Alliance 3 comes off as an MCU-centric story, but the X-Men won't be absence for a fight with Thanos here.

The Nintendo Switch exclusive beat 'em up will arrive July 19, but in the meantime, keep up with all the new announcements and roster additions on our guides page.
