Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Release Date Revealed, New Characters Confirmed

New box art shows off some new heroes.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is coming out exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on July 19, 2019. That's almost 10 years after the release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.

There's also a new box art that gives players a better look at some of the characters playable in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. There are popular figures from the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe films like the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, but also characters like Deadpool, Venom, Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and various members of the X-Men.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was announced at last year's The Game Awards and is the long-awaited sequel to the popular local co-op Marvel series. Developed by Team Ninja, players can select a team of up to four characters to take on the bad guys and progress through the game. There are sometimes bonuses for forming teams that are thematically canon, so like choosing all the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy for example.

In The Black Order, the Marvel heroes face off against Thanos and other famous villains in the Marvel universe. The mission is to prevent Thanos from collecting the Infinity Stones, so the plot is somewhat like the events in Avengers: Infinity War. Although Ultimate Alliance has way more characters than the MCU, and obviously events will play out differently than in the film. Other villains confirmed for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 include Ultron, Green Goblin, Kingpin, Nebula, and the eponymous Black Order.
