With its September launch looming, Crystal Dynamics is entering the endgame of development on Marvel's Avengers. The Destiny-esque superhero team-up is going into beta next month, starting with a PlayStation pre-order period before gradually rolling out to an open beta across PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics passed along the need-to-know dates to IGN, and they're fairly straight forward. On Friday, August 7, folks who have pre-ordered Marvel's Avengers for PS4 will be able to start playing there. A week later on August 14, the PS4 will enter open beta while the Xbox One and PC start their own pre-order periods. Then, on August 21, it turns into an open beta across all three platforms.
Ahead of the beta launch, Crystal Dynamics will host another of its Avengers War Table streams on July 29 to discuss what players will find in the beta. The team is promising a mix of single-player and co-op content along with opportunities for progression and exploration. Currently, there's no word on whether progression from the beta will carry over to the final game.
Last month's War Table stream gave us a lengthy and detailed look at some gameplay beyond the now-familiar A-Day intro. Later, USgamer's Reviews Editor Mike Williams got to chat with some of the team at Crystal Dynamics about the kinds of endgame content players can expect to run (and run again, and again) once they've gotten through the rest of what Marvel's Avengers has to offer.
Marvel's Avengers will launch on September 4 for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Google Stadia. It will also come to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, and Square Enix will offer free next-gen upgrades (within the same console family) for current-gen owners after the new consoles launch.
