Big triple-A titles are no stranger to tie-in deals, and after over a decade of box-office dominance built on its long legacy in comics, neither is Marvel. Already, on top of Spider-Man being PlayStation-exclusive we've seen that Marvel's Avengers is set to have some Sony-only cosmetics, but it looks like another handful will be tied to a few brand deals.
The most prominent of these deals, spotted by users on ResetEra and Twitter over the weekend, is an offer tied to Verizon Up, a rewards program for the mobile service provider. Folks with Verizon Up and a free Square Enix account can sign up to receive a code for Marvel's Avengers beta access on its second weekend, August 14-16. Up members can also receive an in-game outfit package and the base game if they redeem a valid code prior by September 3.
It looks like there's a similar deal in place for Virgin Media, providing a route to access the same cosmetics in regions not serviced by Verizon. Our sister site VG247 has details on other tie-in cosmetics that appear to be linked to an Intel promotion, which could imply that the outfits in question—a pack for the main cast of six that appears to be largely made up of takes on each hero's original costume from the comics—would be PC-exclusive.
Lastly, it looks like there's also a deal for cosmetics with 5 Gum. The gum promotion doesn't appear to have any exclusive outfits associated with it, but it does feature an exclusive emote for Kamala Khan where she blows a bubble of bubblegum (which seems appropriate until you remember that you can't do that with regular chewing gum like 5 Gum).
None of these deals present the same kind of FOMO as the idea of Spider-Man being exclusive only to PlayStation consoles, but it does widen the web of what diehard costume and cosmetic collectors have to consider. It's also not too surprising to see; Marvel's brand dominance aside, earlier this year we saw Square Enix partner with Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, and Crunch bars for Final Fantasy 7 Remake items (and it's worth noting that those items just went free for all players).
Marvel's Avengers will launch for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Google Stadia on September 4. This weekend will see the pre-release beta expand to the public on PS4 and to pre-order customers/code recipients on PC and Xbox One. If you're on the fence about giving it a whirl, be sure to check out USgamer's impressions of the beta here.
