It's the 20th anniversary of Hideo Kojima's revolutionary Metal Gear Solid. To celebrate, art director Erasmus Brosdau remade the cinematic opening to 1998's PlayStation 1 classic Metal Gear Solid in 4K with the Unreal Engine.
It's a complete remake of the opening intro, complete with David Hayter's original dubbing, though the audio has been slightly remastered. The intro starts in the Bering Sea outside of Alaska as Solid Snake prepares to infiltrate the Shadow Moses facility to hunt down Metal Gear REX.
Brosdau even added a new start menu animation to help modernize the whole thing. You can check out the remastered intro below and the original cinematic below that.
Brosdau, who previously worked on games like Crysis and Star Citizen, is currently working on a new project called Origin Zero. He's known for posting his art on Twitter, including fan paintings for Metal Gear Solid (he's a fan if you couldn't tell).
The 20th anniversary of Metal Gear Solid is bittersweet after Kojima and Konami parted ways, with the Metal Gear IP remaining at Konami. Kojima has started a new company, Kojima Productions, and is currently working on his mysterious new game Death Stranding.
You can check out our complete Death Stranding guide here for all the latest trailers and news. A new Death Stranding presentation will be at Tokyo Game Show this year on Sunday, September 23 with director Hideo Kojima and the voice actors presenting on stage.
