The nation's in trouble, and only the 47th President of the United States can stop it, using a mechanized war machine. The all-American mech action game Metal Wolf Chaos' HD update, dubbed XD, is coming August 6.
If you're unfamiliar, Metal Wolf Chaos sets the country in dire straits, with the vice president leading a coup against the sitting president, Michael Wilson, using a horde of mechanized soldiers. Wilson has to jump into a mech of his own to do battle across the country, defeating his enemies with the power of anime and patriotism.
Battles take place across locales like the Brooklyn Bridge and Grand Canyon, and the presidential mech packs a lot of firepower. At some points it seems like he's just materializing these things out of thin air, and at one point the president seems to give an anime protagonist monologue, which I am totally into. Put Martin Sheen in that mech and this is the West Wing reimagining I've always wanted.
The HD update, as part of a partnership between Devolver Digital, original developer FromSoftware, and developer General Arcade, adds upgraded visuals, fine-tuned controls, a new save system, and 4K support. Yes, the studio that brought you Dark Souls and Bloodborne once also worked on a mech game about the president defeating an insurrection from his second command in a bipedal giant robot.
You, too, can defend the nation this August on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In the meantime, check out our feature on why the Dark Souls series might owe a debt to wackier FromSoftware games like Metal Wolf Chaos.
