Mojang Currently Has No Plans To Rescue Minecraft: Story Mode From Being Delisted

Mojang might not pull a Skybound to save Minecraft: Story Mode.

Minecraft developer Mojang announced earlier this week that in the wake of Telltale Games' closure, Minecraft: Story Mode will be delisted from available video game platforms at the end of the month. Mojang advised players to install Minecraft: Story Mode if they haven't already or risk missing out on playing the game altogether, and it sounds like Mojang means it.

In a statement sent to USG Mojang explained, "The Minecraft team currently has no plans to take over Minecraft: Story Mode from Telltale." They then sent over Mojang's original blog post recommending players install Minecraft: Story Mode before it's too late.

Following the closure of Telltale Games, titles like Telltale's The Walking Dead, Tales From the Borderlands, and other licensed games came under threat of disappearing from digital stores.

Skybound Entertainment, the company founded by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, stepped in and saved The Walking Dead from disappearing by taking over the game from Telltale. And other companies like 2K Games have expressed interest in rescuing their own licensed Telltale games.

However, that doesn't sound like Mojang's plan for Minecraft: Story Mode, at least currently. That means that when Minecraft: Story Mode disappears from digital stores like Steam, PSN, etc. there won't be a way to re-install the game onto your console, PC, or mobile device.

Telltale Games shut down late last year following years of difficult management. Former employees told USG about the crunch and executive meddling the developers labored under until the studio finally underwent massive layoffs. Games like The Wolf Among Us 2 were canceled and The Walking Dead's final season was at risk of never being finished until Skybound stepped in to save the project.

Unfortunately, the effects of Telltale's sudden closure continue till this day where licensed games like Minecraft: Story Mode are at risk of disappearing forever.
