Middle-Earth Returns In Shadow of War This August

Monolith gets a chance to expand on the Nemesis system.

Nearly a day ago, Target accidently leaked a sequel to Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. The title appeared in a listing ahead of any official announcement by WB Games, but has since been removed from Target's website. Now it seems WB has had to jump the gun, announcing Middle-Earth: Shadow of War this morning. The sequel is coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on August 22, 2017.

"The open-world action-adventure game is brought to life through the expansion of the award-winning Nemesis System. The robust personalization from the first game is now applied to the entire world where the environments and characters are all shaped by player actions and decisions, creating a personal world unique to every gameplay experience," said WB Games in its press release.

"Go behind enemy lines to forge your army, conquer Fortresses and dominate Mordor from within. Experience how the award winning Nemesis System creates unique personal stories with every enemy and follower, and confront the full power of the Dark Lord Sauron and his Ringwraiths in this epic new story of Middle-earth," said the Target listing.

WB Games UK has released the announcement trailer for the game, showing the ranger Talion and his ghostly partner Celebrimbor forging a new Ring of Power. The cover art the shows Talion at the head of his own army, with the game expanding heavily on the branding mind-control mechanic from the first game with the new Followers system. That concept is backed up by a pre-order bonus for four Legendary Orc Champions to "Forge Your Army".

The trailer ends with the announcement that a full gameplay reveal for the title will be happening on March 8, 2017. Shadow of War will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title, with Project Scorpio supporting coming later this year. It will also have support for the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
