Minecraft Dungeons Gets PC and Console Crossplay Next Week

Explore dungeons with more pals.

Your adventures through blocky dungeons will soon span several platforms. Minecraft developer Mojang confirmed today that its co-op dungeon crawler Minecraft Dungeons is getting crossplay for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Crossplay multiplayer support for Minecraft Dungeons will go live next week on Nov. 17. You'll be able to play with other players on other platforms, but keep in mind, cross-save still isn't implemented at this time—your heroic, cube-shaped exploits will have to stay on their respective platform for now, at least.

Minecraft Dungeons launched earlier this year, following a mild delay of its initial launch date due to the outbreak of COVID-19. After launching, Mojang has been steadily updating the game, adding a few paid expansions including the Jungle Awakens and Creeping Winter.

Following the crossplay update this month, Minecraft Dungeons will be getting its third paid expansion Howling Peaks in December, introducing a new boss and biome, as well as some more difficulty options.

Despite its shortcoming, our own Reviews Editor Mike Williams found something to like in Minecraft Dungeons during his time with it earlier this year. It certainly seems better suited to a family co-op night, more than something darker like Diablo. Family game night gets weird when someone has to explain the concept of hell. Minecraft Dungeon is also on Xbox Game Pass, so that makes it a pretty low-cost pick-up, if you're playing on PC or Xbox.

Minecraft Dungeon's crossplay update hits on Nov. 17 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
