Minecraft: Story Mode Episodes Re-Listed At $100 Apiece On Xbox Store To Deter New Purchases

A high price to pay to play Story Mode before it disappears.

In an effort to "deter new purchases" of Telltale Games' Minecraft: Story Mode ahead of its delisting, some of those episodes will now set you back a pretty penny. Individual episodes of Story Mode are currently listed on the Xbox 360 store for $99.99 each, as part of the game's gradual exodus.

Mojang confirmed this was intentional in a post on the Minecraft: Story Mode Facebook page. In order for current owners to download the games before the servers are switched off, they couldn't be delisted from sale, so they had to take a different approach.

"So, to assist existing customers, all the downloadable Episodes for the two Minecraft: Story Mode titles are temporarily re-listed but, to deter new purchases, they will be re-listed at a very high price! The price shown is a real list price, please do not buy the content, if you do, you will be charged the amount shown. This is simply the only mechanism available to facilitate players being able to download their remaining episodes prior to servers shutting down."

We verified this ourselves on the Xbox storefront and yup, those are $100 per episode. If you're extremely passionate about playing these games before they disappear, at least you have one last way to grab them.

Minecraft: Story Mode will be removed from all servers on June 25, as part of the ongoing delisting of Telltale Games' catalog following its closure. Mojang has confirmed to us it has no plans to rescue Story Mode, instead recommending that players who want to still experience this content download it now, before it goes away. It's a real bummer that Story Mode, among other Telltale Games, could be disappearing into the digital ether for good. If you've got the game registered to your account, you might want to make sure you download it in the near, near future.
