Monster Hunter World's Alatreon Update Launches July 9, New Developer Diary Coming This Week

And there's a teaser of a new Barioth variant.

The long-awaited Alatreon update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is nearly here. Capcom announced today that the Elder Dragon would be making its debut in Monster Hunter: World in just over a week's time, on July 9.

You can check out the impressive introductory trailer for Alatreon just below. The Blazing Black Dragon looks set to challenge even the most experienced hunters, who have been playing Monster Hunter: World since it first launched back in early 2018.

For those unfamiliar with the new beast, it originally debuted in Monster Hunter 3. It's said to be an extremely unstable creature, able to use lightning, ice, dragon, and fire-based elemental attacks. This sure sounds like it's going to be hell when it comes to planning and preparing for a fight with Alatreon, especially when considering which elemental armor set to take with you.

Elsewhere, there's slated to be a big Developer Diary update from Capcom toward the end of this week on July 3. As always with the Developer Diaries, we can expect a detailed breakdown of Alatreon as well as a look at its weapon and armor sets, details of new events planned for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, as well as teasers of new monsters.

There's definitely a lot to look forward to in the future of Monster Hunter: World. The launch of the huge Iceborne expansion might be well behind us now (even for the later launch of the expansion on the PC), but there's still plenty of new creatures to look forward to fighting, including one superpowered Barioth that you can catch a brief glimpse of right at the end of the Developer Diary teaser.
