More Avengers Details Revealed for E3, Including Co-op Gameplay

Customize your characters and work together to save the world.

Square Enix's Avengers game is finally going to get a proper reveal at E3 2019 this year. Along with an appearance at Square Enix's press conference, developers from Cyrstal Dynamics will be at the E3 Colosseum to talk more about their Avengers game which will blend single-player and co-op features.

In a summary for the "Marvel's Avengers Showcase" at the E3 Colosseum, the Avengers game is described as "the defining Avengers gaming experience: an epic action-adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with continuous single-player and co-operative gameplay."

Players will apparently be able to "assemble" teams of up to four players, gain new abilities, and customize characters to their liking. While we'll learn more about Avengers at the reveal, there's some interesting language present in the presentation summary.

While a co-op Avengers game makes sense given the core concept of the Avengers is teamwork, there will still be single-player elements to the game. It's unclear what "continuous" means, but we'll likely here more about this at the event.

There's also some RPG-lite mechanics in that you can customize your characters to a certain degree. It's unclear how this will work since the Avengers characters like Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and the others have pretty clearly defined powers and abilities. But perhaps if you're playing someone like Captain America you can choose to play either more offensively or defensively.

We haven't seen Avengers at all since Square Enix first announced the project two and a half years ago. Along with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Square Enix already has two big headliners for its E3 press conference. Check out our E3 guide for full schedules and times.
