Mortal Kombat 11's Joker Feigns Friendship in New Gameplay Video

Batman's greatest enemy leans into R-rated action again.

While everyone is busy talking about Super Smash Bros Ultimate, there's another fighting game that's getting a different Joker as DLC. Netherrealm released a gameplay trailer for the next character in the Kombat Pack, Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime.

Instead of just pulling the Joker's movesets from his appearance in either Injustice game, it looks like Netherrealm has made yet another new version of the character. Instead of using a knife as a weapon like his Injustice 2 counterpart, Joker now uses a cane with a vicious hook on the end. He also looks to have a whole host of gadgets, including a Batman hand-puppet pistol, a tied-up hostage, and huge retractable boxing gloves.

For his Fatal Blow, the Joker viciously mauls his opponent with the cane, which feels like its recalling his murder of Jason Todd in Batman: A Death in the Family. His Fatality is a bit of a swerve, offering a huge cake to his enemy with a sign that says, "Friendship" behind them. The cake explodes though, and the Joker peppers his foe with bullets, revealing that the sign actually says, "Fatality". They finally die when the Fatality sign falls on their skull.

The Joker is the fifth character in the Kombat Pack, preceded by Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Terminator T-800, and Sindel. The final character release will be Spawn sometime in March. Kombat pack owners will get one week of early access to the Joker on January 28, 2020. At the same time, those players can also access the DC Elseworlds skin pack with a Killer Croc skin for Baraka, a Catwoman skin for Kitana, and a Batman Who Laughs skin for Noob Saibot.

Towards the end of last year, Netherrealm added cross-play for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Mortal Kombat 11 and launched the game on Google Stadia. We also have a lengthy series of guides to help you out if you're just jumping into Mortal Kombat 11 for the first time.

If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
