In light of the recent leaks of large portions of The Last of Us Part 2's story, developer Naughty Dog has released a statement, asking fans and social media users to do their best to avoid spoilers and try not to spoil events for others.
Several major story beats began circulating online recently, and while the originals have been taken down, mirrors and text descriptions of them still exist in various social forums. We won't be spoiling any of it here, but suffice to say, it is a fairly significant leak.
In a message from Naughty Dog, the studio acknowledges the existence of said leaks: "It's disappointing to see the release and sharing of pre-release footage from development. Do your best to avoid spoilers and we ask that you don't spoil it for others."
Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann followed up, saying he is "heartbroken" for the team and for the fans.
The Last of Us Part 2 is due out on June 19, 2020, a new release date it got today after getting indefinitely delayed earlier this month. Druckmann commented on the game's readiness at the time, saying it was at the "one-yard line."
Though that leaves just over a month until the launch of The Last of Us Part 2, that's still a fair amount of time for fans to avoid social forums and the replies of the tweets linked above. If you're looking to stay unspoiled, now would be a good time to update any muted keywords and keep an extra-discerning eye out for anything regarding The Last of Us.
