NBA 2K20 Teams Up With LeBron and World's Hottest Man Idris Elba For MyCareer

Idris Elba, Rosario Dawson, and the real star, Ernie Hudson, are in NBA 2K20's story mode.

The first trailer for NBA 2K20's MyCareer is officially here, and it reveals a story mode more packed with star power than ever. LeBron James and Maverick Carter are producing NBA 2K20's MyCareer story mode, which stars Idris Elba, Rosario Dawson, and most importantly of all, Winston Zeddemore himself, Ernie Hudson. (I kid... mostly.)

Like the previous modes in the series, it will feature a player-controlled character on their journey into the NBA and beyond. After focusing on China and the NBA G-League in NBA 2K19, this year's version is going back to basics, focusing more on the quest to earn a high spot in the NBA Draft. Idris Elba will play the main character's college coach, with Maverick Carter—best-known for his key role in engineering the ill-fated "Decision" special—having a significant role to play as well.

You can find the first trailer below.

NBA 2K20's MyCareer story is being produced in partnership with James' production company, SpringHill Entertainment, which he founded not long before joining the Los Angeles Lakers. James is famously keen on being "more than an athlete," with entertainment being one of his major ventures outside of basketball. His company is working on numerous projects outside of NBA 2K, including Space Jam 2, which is currently in production.

Notably, the last time NBA 2K teamed up with a celebrity, Spike Lee, it didn't go very well. The subsequent story, a milquetoast examination of joining the NBA after growing up in the hood, was largely panned for its lousy ending and poor integration into the main mode. NBA 2K20's story will also be tackling social issues, so we'll see if it is able to do any better.

Beyond that, it's shaping up to be another strong year for the powerhouse franchise. In addition to its partnership with LeBron James, Visual Concepts is overhauling its MyGM mode, and also including the WNBA for the first time in series history. Its only question mark is its microtransaction integration, which has been a sore spot with fans owing to how much grinding it necessitates in MyCareer.

NBA 2K20 will be out September 6 on Xbox One, PC, PS4, and Switch. Stay tuned for more coverage later this week.
