NBA 2K21 Is Bringing MyPlayer to the WNBA

NBA 2K21 Is Bringing MyPlayer to the WNBA

The new mode is a next-gen exclusive, however.

NBA 2K21 is already out on current-gen consoles, but when the next generation arrives, it will have a new mode. The WNBA is getting its own MyPlayer mode, though it's currently only coming to next-gen consoles.

In a new 2K21 blog this morning, 2K details how the new mode will work. MyWNBA will be a customizable, multi-season franchise mode, which will let you play in Online Leagues, play as GM, and share custom configurations. Alongside the league options and MyPlayer creation options, there's also The W, which lets you experience the career of a WNBA player on and off the court.

Different player types and off-court decisions help shape your player; do they help grow the league and get some cash, or start angling for life after basketball? Doing jobs like Influencer or Entrepreneur off the court can affect your career trajectory as you play in the league.

There's also an online three-on-three mode called The W Online, where you can take your MyPlayer online and compete against other players' bespoke basketballers. Winning in this mode means more MyPlayer progression, as well as some cosmetics.

The catch with this is, according to a press release, that The W and MyWNBA are limited to next-gen versions of NBA 2K21 only. It's a shame previous-gen console owners won't get a chance to check them out, considering they seem like pretty significant additions to the game.

NBA 2K21 has caught some heat, both for its next-gen version $10 price bump and for the unskippable pre-match ads it introduced, though the latter will be "fixed" according to 2K.

NBA 2K21 is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on the respective console release dates. For Xbox, that's Nov. 10, and for PS5, Nov. 12.
