Need for Speed Countdown Clock Suggests a Pre-Gamescom Reveal for New Game

Need for Speed Countdown Clock Suggests a Pre-Gamescom Reveal for New Game

We'll finally see what the new entry looks like.

The next Need For Speed is getting its time in the spotlight, if a countdown clock is to be believed. An official site has popped up with a countdown clock and the Need For Speed logo, indicating more news to come for the asphalt-tearing racing series.

A mysterious countdown clock points towards August 14 as the reveal date, at 9 a.m. ET. We don't know much else, other than that the logo depicts a simple NFS.

News first hit about a new Need For Speed when the team announced it would be skipping this year's EA Play event and E3 2019, instead opting to do a full unveil at a later time. Publisher Electronic Arts has since confirmed that the new Need For Speed is on track for a release this year, so no reason yet to get worried it's in an NBA Live situation.

Given the timing, it's likely this is going to be a teaser of some kind ahead of Gamescom 2019, kicking off August 20. It'd be nice to see Need For Speed get back to its roots after some less enjoyable offerings this console generation. Though Payback wasn't exactly up to speed, both the simply self-titled Need For Speed and the early console-cycle Rivals were warmly received. If series developer Ghost Games can identify where the series started to drift, this could be a great swan song for the PlayStation 4-era of Need For Speed.

We'll see what Ghost Games has in store pretty soon, though it probably won't be coming to Nintendo Switch if EA's track record is anything to go by.
