Today during its financial earnings call, Electronic Arts announced that a new Need for Speed game was expected to launch prior to the end of the current fiscal year. That means the game will be coming prior to March 31, 2018.
"We're also excited to have a new Need for Speed title launching in FY18. We've given this game an extended development cycle to focus on innovation, and the Need for Speed team is pushing the boundaries of action driving with what we believe is the most exciting and best-looking Need for Speed game we've ever produced," said EA CEO Andrew Wilson during the call.
The last entry in the racing franchise was a reboot simply called Need for Speed. The game's focus was on street racing culture and it was developed by EA's NFS studio, Ghost Games. Unfortunately, reception of the game was less than stellar. The series then took off 2016 to find a new direction.
EA is currently work on another Need for Speed title called Need for Speed: Edge. Edge is in development at EA Spearhead, a Korean development studio, and will be a free-to-play game aimed at markets in Asia. Nexon will be handling the publishing of the game.
