New Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Trailer Teases Origins of Some Familiar Faces

Robbie and Purah get some spotlight.

The next Legend of Zelda musou is delving into the origins of Breath of the Wild's Calamity. In the process, it looks like we'll be learning more about the earlier years of some beloved characters from the ruined future of Hyrule, and the role they played in the war against Calamity Ganon.

A new trailer that dropped today shows a few characters who will be in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. We've already seen confirmation of Link, Zelda, Impa, and the Four Champions, but today, two clever engineers were confirmed: Robbie and Purah.

Those who played The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild might recall Robbie and Purah as the quirky inventors who can provide Link with a few quests and objectives to chase. They were part of the team that worked with Zelda to unearth and utilize ancient Sheikah technology, including the Sheikah Slate. It seems like we might get a chance to see just what they did 100 years prior to the events of Breath of the Wild for ourselves.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is the follow-up to the original Hyrule Warriors. Rather than a crossover between various entries in the series though, Age of Calamity looks like its focused on the events preceding Breath of the Wild, including the Calamity Ganon invasion.

While Robbie and Purah will be making an appearance as their past younger selves, it's unclear if they'll actually be entering the fray. Considering they're more prone to tinkering than fighting, it seems likely they could play a support role rather than dealing with hordes of monsters. It's probably better to leave that to fighters like Impa, who was recently shown off at Tokyo Game Show 2020.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity arrives for Nintendo Switch on Nov. 20, 2020.
