New Minecraft Switch Trailer Highlights Cross-Play With Xbox One, PS4 Notably Absent

There's a brand new trailer for the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft that celebrates cross-play, but someone's missing.

A brand new Minecraft trailer wouldn't normally be anything outside of the ordinary. But in a new cross-play trailer for the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft, the PS4 is entirely absent, as Switch and Xbox players enjoy playing the game together.

The description of the trailer, which you can see for yourself just below, reads: "The new version of Minecraft is out on Nintendo Switch! Play with friends on Xbox One, Windows 10 or Mobile." The Better Together update for Minecraft Switch arrived today, but the PS4 version of Minecraft is not due to receive the update.

Things haven't been so hot for PlayStation recently in the cross-play department. Sony has played down the importance of cross-play for months, which means although Xbox and Switch players can play games like Fortnite and Rocket League together, they can't play with PS4 players. The Sony crowd, as you can see below, isn't happy about this.

Sony has recently come under fire after it issued a weak statement on the lack of cross-play for the PS4. If you have an Epic account already linked to your PS4, you can't then link it to play on the Nintendo Switch, for example, so you'll need to create a brand new account and begin all over again.

As of right now, Sony remains unmoved on the issue of cross-play with PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles. For more on Minecraft, head over to our Best Minecraft Mods Guide.
