EA and Respawn, not content with releasing the free-to-play Apex Legends this week, says there will be a new "premium" Titanfall "experience" coming out later this year. The wording indicates that this won't be Titanfall 3, but we already knew that.
EA, in an earnings call with investors today to discuss the results of the last fiscal quarter, revealed it is working on a slate of new games for the future. This includes a new Need for Speed, new Plants vs. Zombies, and a new Titanfall game.
But wait, didn't Respawn say they weren't working on Titanfall 3? Yes, they did. But the way EA CEO Andrew Wilson described the upcoming Titanfall game, it doesn't sound like Titanfall 3. Rather, Respawn is developing a "premium" Titanfall entry, most likely meaning a paid title rather than something free-to-play like Apex Legends.
This puts Respawn's current development slate at three games: Apex Legends content, a new Titanfall game, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – which Wilson says is very far along and coming this fall.
Tons of things planned for @PlayApex in the future. We are also committed to listening to player feedback. We are also working on more Titanfall for later in the year (yes, I said the T word). We love being able to experiment in this crazy universe!— Vince Zampella (@VinceZampella) February 5, 2019
The news confirms Respawn founder Vince Zameplla's tweet from earlier today in which he announced that Respawn is "working on more Titanfall for later in the year." So, whatever else we're going to see from EA later this year, it will include more Titanfall. Hopefully with mechs and wall-running.
