CD Projekt's Next Game Is Either More Cyberpunk or Another Witcher
According to CD Projekt Red's president, development of their next single-player game begins later this year.
CD Projekt hasn't even shipped Cyberpunk 2077 yet, but they're already looking to the future. The company's president just recently shed some light on the studio's plans after Cyberpunk, which could go one of two ways.
According to Eurogamer Poland, a group of journalists were recently invited to CD Projekt in Warsaw, Poland. During this visit they were briefed by company president Adam Kici?ski on the studio's next game after Cyberpunk 2077 ships in September 2020. "We've been working on a next single-player game already," Kici?ski said, through a translation provided to Eurogamer. "It's already working but we don't want to commit to it yet. We'll start working on this next game right after Cyberpunk 2077."
"We have two worlds and we want to create games in those two worlds," Kici?ski continued, referring to Cyberpunk and The Witcher. "That's why all planned games are either Witcher or Cyberpunk." So while CD Projekt's next game could be set in either universe, Kici?ski isn't ready to reveal which one.
This next game from CD Projekt is currently being worked on by a small team within CD Projekt. This team will expand after Cyberpunk 2077 ships on September 17, 2020, where one team within CD Projekt will work on this new single-player RPG, another team will work on Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, and a final team will continue work on the multiplayer component of Cyberpunk.
If there is a new Witcher game in development at CD Projekt, it won't be called The Witcher 4, and it won't be a direct sequel to 2015's Wild Hunt. It's worth remembering CD Projekt and Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski inked a new deal at the end of 2019, which appears to have left the author much happier. "One could venture to say the situation changed by 180 degrees and we cemented relations with Mr. Sapkowski," said Kici?ski. "Not only on paper: we're cooperating."
