If you've been pining for the glory days of old-school hockey games, a new version of an old classic is on the way. NHL 94 Rewind is a new spin on the original NHL 94, arriving as a pre-order bonus for NHL 21.
Complete with the graphics of the time, NHL 94 Rewind is aiming to take things all the way back with both a look and feel similar to the '90s sports game. It will, however, use today's teams and rosters for the lineup. You can play all the throwback hockey you want, with modern-day teams.
NHL Rewind 94 is also a pre-order incentive for NHL 21, which means you'll need to pick up the actual modern hockey game to play. The pre-order incentive is live through NHL 21's launch date of Oct. 16, and Rewind itself will go live on Oct. 30, 2020.
NHL 21 will also be launching solely on the current crop of console hardware. The launch of next-gen consoles is looming, but NHL 21 is sitting out the launch, instead relying on forward compatibility for Xbox Series X and PS5. It's a move similar to what the recently revived UFC franchise is doing, while other EA Sports franchises like Madden and FIFA will be getting next-gen versions right away.
It might not be a next-gen version, but some retro hockey action is likely to get at least a few fans of old-school sports games on board. NHL 21 will launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Oct. 16, 2020.
