The Ni no Kuni Movie is Coming to Netflix This Month

You won't have long to wait till the Studio Ghibli film.

An animated Ni no Kuni feature film premiered in Japan back in August 2019. If you were hoping for a western release, we've got good news: it'll be streaming on Netflix later this month.

The movie, simply called Ni no Kuni, launches on Netflix on January 16. It's directed by Yoshiyuki Momosi, who previously directed Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. There's an existing partnership between Studio Ghibli and Bandai Namco's game franchise, as the film studio helped out with animation and character design on the original Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

The official description from Netflix details how two friends go on a magical adventure to save their friend. But love somehow complicates their journey. You can see the stylish trailer above, which certainly draws on the Ghibli aesthetic we've come to love over the years.

The original Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch was remastered for PS4, PC, and Xbox One last year in September 2019. The original game is also available on the Nintendo Switch, although not in the remastered form.
