Nintendo and Granblue Fantasy Developers are Working on an Original RPG for Mobile

Dragalia Lost is a joint development venture for Nintendo and Cygames.

Nintendo announced a new partnership today with Cygames, the developers behind the super popular mobile RPG Granblue Fantasy. The two companies are working on a new original IP called Dragalia Lost.

While no details are currently available for Dragalia Lost, it's expected to be a mobile RPG, based on an original IP rather than Nintendo's previous mobile games. Cygames is designing the title with Nintendo taking on a "co-developer" role. The two companies will also jointly operate the game.

In the past Nintendo has released mobile games developed by Japanese mobile games company DeNA based on Nintendo's existing IP. So far there are games based on Fire Emblem, Mario, and Animal Crossing. There's also a Mario Kart game coming soon.

Cygames currently runs Granblue Fantasy, a popular mobile RPG known for holding special events with popular guest characters from other famous franchises. Characters from other anime, manga, and video games have made appearances in Granblue Fantasy.

While Granblue Fantasy hasn't been released in the states, Dragalia Lost will first release in Japan and Asia before releasing in North America and Europe.
