A surprise Nintendo Direct was announced during EVO 2018

News by Matt Kim, .

Nintendo announced a new Nintendo Direct for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate during the Super Smash Bros. Melee finals at EVO 2018 today.

The Nintendo Direct will be held on Wednesday, August 8 at 7am PT/10am ET. The time and date were revealed on the Super Smash Bros. Twitter account and will detail more information about the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai is also expected to make an appearance.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was announced back in March and headlined Nintendo's E3 2018. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate announced that every character in the series would be available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and new characters like Ridley and Daisy will be joining as well. No love for Waluigi though.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is slated for a December 7 release for the Nintendo Switch. Check out our Super Smash Bros. Ultimate guide for the latest news, and check back in on Wednesday August 8 when we'll cover the Nintendo Direct.

On the one hand, I know it's a bit much to hope for a character reveal for a game that already has everybody from past Smash Bros. titles in it. But on the other hand, Koei Tecmo (especially the Team Ninja part of it) has been collaborating with Nintendo on games for years and still lacks a rep in Smash.

There's room for two Ryus, you know.Edited 3 weeks ago by MetManMas

Damn. Sakurai released a game with every character from the franchise and then some. Yet many cry and whine still. I, for one, am impressed with what Sakurai and his team have brought to the table with this new Smash.
